As is usual at this time of the year, we took advantage of the summer sunshine and joined thousands of locals and visitors on the waterfront in Hobart.
As well as the week long food festival, the Taste of Tasmania, affectionately known as “The Taste”, the marinas around the waterfront were filling up fast with yachts finishing the ocean races happening around Tasmania this week – the Sydney to Hobart race, Melbourne to Hobart by the east coast, Melbourne to Hobart by the west coast, and the Launceston to Hobart by the east coast of Tasmania, all starting on Boxing Day or the day after.
The big maxi yachts were the first to finish on Friday, the smaller boats still arriving today, and some will still be on the water for New Years Eve.
While we were watching, one of the smaller Sydney to Hobart yachts – Blunderbuss – was guided into her berth in Kings Pier marina.
Another event on in Hobart this weekend is the Antiques and Collectibles Fair at the Hobart City Hall, always a very interesting place to visit. DH found some more rulers to add to his collection, and I found a couple of lace irons.
Having bought this one at last year’s fair
now I have three, does that mean I have a “collection” now?
